CSE101 lecture materials
Week 01
22 Sep–25 Sep 2026 · Computer foundations and data representation
Tuesday 22 Sep · CSE101
13:30–16:30 · Z23
Principles
Computer engineering; transistors, logic gates and memory; binary and hexadecimal; character and signal representation; numeric limits and storage.
Application & programming
Interpret representations through worked examples, including signed arithmetic, overflow and floating point. Introduce the Arduino kit and its role in the course.
Week 1 slides and reading are available above. Recordings will be linked when available.
Learning focus
Explain basic gates and memory and interpret small binary/hexadecimal values. The published set includes broader representation material for study and carryover.
D: do independently · M: explain and modify a worked example · R: recognize, trace and compare.
Revisit: A simple gate and number prediction.
Wednesday 23 Sep · Recitation
Guided conversion/gate practice; identify gaps and explain the weekly workflow.
Start time tentatively 16:30; room to be announced.
Friday 25 Sep · CSE107
Orientation: Orientation
Introduction to the course workflow, lab environment and equipment. No regular lab this week.
