CSE 513 · GEBZE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
Memory management and address translation
Lecture set 05 · Semester week 5
The central question
How does a process get its own view of memory?
First half
Address spaces, allocation, fragmentation, segmentation in context and paging.
Second half
Page tables, address-translation exercises, TLBs, multilevel tables and memory protection.
What you should be able to do
- Translate an address using a specified page table.
- Explain page-table and TLB roles and memory-allocation trade-offs.
A concrete example
Follow one address through its page number, offset, page-table entry and physical memory location.
